Chen Taijiquan Practical Method in the Bay Area

The information on this blog is intended to serve the Practical Method taijiquan community of the San Francisco Bay Area. The Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method was developed by Hong Junsheng, disciple of Grandmaster Chen Fa-Ke. We practice the form as taught by Hong's disciple Chen Zhonghua (Joseph Chen).

Special workshops and private lessons on Taijiquan theory and practice are available. Check out the calendar or the classes section of the website (chenstyletaiji.org) for specific class times and information. Or email nathan.heintz(at)gmail.com.

Nathan Heintz is a student of Chen Zhonghua, the International Standard Bearer of the Practical Method art. Through this blog I will be sharing training notes, relevant videos, photos, and reflections on taijiquan practice and theory. I also intend to provide a bit of a portal into the vast world that Grandmaster Hong's art has spawned. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy.

Announcing Spring and Summer 2013 Classes in Chen Style Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan) in Oakland and the SF Bay Area

The weather is sweet and the Bay Area is in full effect this season, and I plan to get outside in the beautiful Nature and do some serious taijiquan training. I'll be in my low stance, sweating and grinding my forms and soaking in Heaven and Earth at Marina Park, Lake Merritt, up on Mt. Tam, in Big Sur, Half Moon Bay, Fort Funston, Golden Gate Park, foothills of Mt. Diablo, doing Tai Chi and Qigong all day long. Please don't hesitate to call me up and schedule a time to get together. I just want to train. No one turned away for lack of funds.

If you're a martial artist and you want to play, I'm down, but let's keep it relaxed, cooperative, and generative.

I will also be planning at least two nature immersion/wilderness taiji and qigong workshops at remote locations this summer, so please keep your eyes peeled to this location for more information. At these workshops we will deepen our relationships to the elements, do mindfulness work, learn about the history and theory of taijiquan, yijing (I-Ching), and Taoism, and combine nature immersion with qigong and taiji practice.

I look forward to seeing you in the park!

- Nathan
